VINTAGE 1950’s ELSA SCHIAPARELLI
Schiaparelli was one of the most iconic fashion designers of the early part of the 20th Century. In fact one of her biggest rivals of the time was Chanel and if you look at a lot of the Prada designs you will see Schiaparelli as their main influence.
In fact this spring the Metropolitan Museum in New York put an exhibition together entitled Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations; which explored the striking affinities between these two Italian designers from different eras.
Her designs were heavily influenced by the Surrealist movement and collaborated most notably with artist Salvador Dali in the 1930’s. Only a handful of her glasses have come up for sale in the last five years but here you have an opportunity of owning a piece of 20th century design.
Keep an eye out next week for another frame from our private collection which was actually owned and worn by Schiaparelli herself.
